Fechner Day 2019 October 30th –2nd November 2019

28.10.2019 – Updates see below

Dear friends, the 35th annual meeting of the International Society for Psychophysics will take place in Antalya, Turkey. The meeting will be held at the Faculty of Letters, Akdeniz (the Mediterranean) University, Antalya, Turkey between October 30th and November 2nd, and is organised in collaboration with Dr. Evrim Gülbetekin and staff of the Department of Psychology at Akdeniz Üniversitesi. Please note that this is a second, but final date change, while the conference venue is also changed. The meeting will now not be held between November 2nd and 6th. The slight change in date is due to a confluence of meetings at the time of the anniversary of the founding of psychophysics and is organised to fall largely over the weekend to maximise opportunities to attend.

Please note: The PayPal option is up and running.

Updates

Registration opens at 15:00 on Wednesday 30th October at the conference venue, which is the Faculty of Letters at Akdeniz University, Antalya. The first keynote, to be delivered by Jim Townsend, entitled “Psychological Systems Theory (PST): Extending Fechner’s Psychophysics to Elementary Perception, Cognition, and Motor Processes”, will be at 17:10 following a brief welcome and run through any organizational matters by Evrim Gülbetekin and myself. Following Jim’s keynote we will adjourn to a reception in the old town.

It is possible to find your way around Antalya from here – https://turkeytravelplanner.com/go/med/Antalya/trans/airport_trans.html – and this includes travel from the airport to the downtown area. To get to registration on the 30th we recommend a taxi, which may not cost much more than 25-30 TL from the Hotel Su (for example). The taxi driver will take you to the right place if you ask to go to “Akdeniz Universitesi Edebiyat Fakultesi”, or, if you’re not confident about your Turkish, ask the hotel reception, or, write it down and show it to the taxi driver. Our student support will be at both entrances to the Faculty building to guide you.

If you need to pay registration fees on site, please do so in Euro or Turkish Lira.

The reception is to be held in the old town, for which there is a bus service available from the Faculty building. If you have paid yoiur conference fees the reception cost is included in this amount, otherwise it is 25 Euro. The Reception will be held at Karaf Bistro: Kılıçaslan Mah. 2. sakarya Sok. No:14 Kaleiçi/Antalya

To coordinate shuttle buses during the days of the scientific meeting, it would be helpful to know who stays somewhere other than Hotel Su. If possible we can then work out a schedule that includes pick up/drop off somewhere close to you. Hopefully, we can announce a full schedule of pick up and drop off times at the welcome. If not, we will let you know when the bus will collect and drop off at Hotel Su.

The conference dinner will be held at 8:00 pm November 1st at Alana Restaurant

Please note that the weather forecast is for temperatures between 20-26 degrees, although it may rain in Antalya on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If it is likely to rain heavily, we may have to abandon the visit to Termessos and instead take a guided tour around the city museum.

The conference organisers would like to kindly thank Akdeniz University in Antalya for making it possible to host the conference on university grounds.
