42nd Annual Meeting of the International Society for Psychophysics
Fechner Day 2026
Fechner Day 2026 will bring together researchers interested in quantitative approaches to sensation and perception in the vibrant university city of Umeå, in northern Sweden. Join us for three days of talks, posters and discussions on psychophysical theory, methods and applications.
A detailed call for papers, registration information and practical details will be published here as they become available.
About the meeting
Fechner Day is the annual meeting of the International Society for Psychophysics (ISP). The 42nd meeting will be hosted by the Department of Psychology at Umeå University.
The conference provides a forum for research on the relationships between physical stimuli and perceptual experiences, including classical and modern psychophysical methods, modelling approaches and applications across the senses.
In Umeå, we aim to create a focused, friendly environment that supports scientific exchange across career stages, with a particular emphasis on graduate student participation.

Calls & contributions
A formal call for papers will be issued in due course. We expect contributions in all areas of psychophysics, including (but not limited to):
- Visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory and multimodal psychophysics
- Scaling methods, signal detection theory, and ideal observer analysis
- Computational and mathematical models of perception
- Applied psychophysics in clinical, ergonomic or technological contexts
Suggestions for themes and special sessions
The local organisers welcome suggestions for special sessions, thematic symposia and panel discussions. Don't hesitate to contact Greg Neely at gregory.neely@umu.se with ideas or suggestions.
History display & ISP memorabilia
To mark the long tradition of Fechner Day meetings, we are planning a small exhibition on the history of the ISP. Members are warmly invited to contribute photographs, programmes, posters or other memorabilia. Digital materials can be sent in advance; information about how to do this will be provided on this site.
